The website in 2018
Sadly we are not able to regularly update the website or facebook since we have been back in Barbuda. Over five months now without electricity, we are still using expensive generators that cost too much to run for more than a few hours and gas is limited and often rationed. The internet is limited, slow and time consuming and is no longer being provided free at the Fisheries building; often there is no signal. Most people have no phone signal either.
Homes are gradually being repaired but the pace is slow. NODS are not giving any information to anyone about their procedures - if they have any - and the contracted Antiguan builders are not being paid and are running out of materials weekly. We are still waiting (Cat 1 - least damage) patiently for our materials, and most of the 500 or so people currently returned to Barbuda are also still waiting. UNDP have just announced they are repairing Cat 1 and 2 homes first with the aid from China.
The army are still 'in charge' and our ALP Councillors are in Antigua doing everything they are told to do by the Government, and saying nothing while we are called 'imbeciles' and 'squatters' by our so-called leaders. This is a sad state of affairs for our proud and independent island. But they will have to answer for their decisions later and they had better read the constitution of Council because it is supposed to be set up (in Barbuda) this month.
Visitors are welcome and are coming and we have a great ferry service (weather permitting) and daily flights. There is immense love around the world for Barbuda, so Barbudans, try to raise more money for your own families and for our island. We will be back.
